This course is for those practiced in backcountry travel, who have taken the AST 1, and are looking for feedback and coaching in their decision making process. You should have a good level of fitness, being able to ascend up to 1000m each day, and know how to use and trouble-shoot your backcountry ski touring equipment.
The AST 2 curriculum, developed by Avalanche Canada, will build on skills learned in the AST 1 course. It is a 4 day course that includes 1 full classroom session, and three field sessions, with additional sessions in the evening to prepare for the following day’s tour. You will receive coaching on trip planning, navigating, track setting, and more.
